
'Cuse Defeats Boston College in Extra Innings

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.- The Orange softball team (14-16, 3-10) took down Boston College (11-28, 2-12) 6-4 in nine innings. Kaylee Eubanks and Gabby Lantier scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning for Syracuse to secure the victory over the Eagles in the second game of the series.Â
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
In the top of the second inning, Kaimi Tulua singled up the middle to reach first base. Kendall Gaunt followed, singling to shallow right field to put runners on first and second base. Peyton Schemmer pinch ran for Tulua, and advanced on a fielder's choice to second base during Taylor Davison's at-bat. Davison would go on to steal second base, putting two runners in scoring position. Gabby Lantier hit the ball into right field to send Schemmer and Davison across home plate to score, giving Syracuse a 2-0 advantage.Â
Boston College added a run to the board in the bottom of the second after the Eagles' Nicole Riddell homered to deep right field.Â
At the top of the fifth inning, Davison and Lantier each hit singles. After a pitching change, Burney grounded out, but advanced the Orange runners on base to second and third. Madelyn Lopez reached second base on a fielder's choice, as Davison made it safely across home plate to score. Vanessa Flores singled through the left side, sending Lantier home to add another run to the board for Syracuse. SU ended the inning leading 4-1.Â
Adriana Martinez and Janis Espinoza each hit a home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut into the Orange's lead, making it a one-run game. The Eagles were able to add runners onto second and third base, putting Boston College into scoring position. Sammy Horn grounded out to Erika Zamora at third base to end the inning with SU holding onto a 4-3 lead. Â
Emma Knight of Boston College added a home run to the scoresheet to tie the game 4-4  in the bottom of the seventh inning. Â
In the top of the ninth inning, Eubanks doubled down the left field line in her first plate appearance of the day. The freshman reached third base after a wild pitch was thrown during Gaunt's at-bat. Pinch hitter Rose Cano singled to right field, bringing Eubanks home to score. Cano reached scoring position after she advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Lantier entered the game to pinch run for Cano, scoring a run for the Orange after Jadyn Burney singled to shallow right field.Â
Boston College was unable to bring a runner home in the bottom of the ninth inning, ultimately giving 'Cuse a 6-4 win in the second game of the series.Â
OF NOTEÂ
Gabby Lantier's multi-RBI performance is the third in her career.Â
Taylor Davison scored two runs, the most in a game in her career.Â
Julianna Verni stepped in to relieve Madison Knight, throwing five strikeouts in 3.2 innings.Â
Kaylee Eubanks' double in the top of the ninth inning was the first multi-base hit of her career.Â
