Softball Ends Series Against Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky.- The Orange softball team (18-23, 4-15) closed out the series against No. 25 Louisville (41-10, 16-5), dropping 13-7 to the Cardinals. Madison Knight hit two home runs, putting her tied for fourth place in program history for the most home runs hit in a season.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Knight hit back-to-back home runs, driving in five runs for the Orange. Knight hit her first of the day in the top of the third inning, cutting Louisville's lead. The senior sent the ball over the left field fence in the top of the fourth inning to add four runs to the board. Gabby Lantier singled to bring Lauren Fox home, putting Syracuse within one run of the Cardinals.Â
The Orange added another run after Vanessa Flores singled to center field, sending Taylor Davison across home plate.Â
The Cardinals scored in each inning of the game as Chelsea Mack and Madison Pickens each scored three runs. Pickens and Ava Venturelli led the team, tallying three hits each, including two home runs by Venturelli. Louisville ultimately completed the series sweep, winning 13-7. Â
OF NOTEÂ
- Madison Knight tallied her 13th and 14th home runs of the season, tying her for the fourth most in a season by an Orange player in program history.Â
- Knight's two home runs add to her career record of 28 home runs total, tied for the seventh most in program history.Â
- Gabby Lantier, Vanessa Flores, Kendall Gaunt and Knight each had multi-hit games.
UP NEXT
Syracuse will host Virginia Tech at Skytop Softball Stadium from May 1-3 for a three game ACC series to close out the regular season. Saturday's game will celebrate Senior Day.Â
