BUFFALO, N.Y.- The Orange softball team (18-20) split a doubleheader at Buffalo (22-28) on Tuesday, April 21. Syracuse fell to the Bulls in the first game 4-0 but recovered with a 6-2 win in the second contest.

GAME 1 VS. BUFFALO
Madison Knight pitched a full seven innings against the Bulls in the first game of the doubleheader. The senior struck out six batters.

Syracuse was unable to bring any runners home and Buffalo plated four. The Bulls scored in the bottom of the first inning, added two runs in the third inning, and capped off the first game with one more run in the fifth inning, sealing a 4-0 victory over 'Cuse.

GAME 2 VS. BUFFALO
The Orange's six-run third inning was the turning point of the day. Knight doubled to right field, sending Lauren Fox across home plate to score. Gabby Lantier reached home after Madelyn Lopez singled to right field. Knight would go on to steal home, and Lopez would follow a play later, scoring on a passed ball. Jadyn Burney's single brought two runners home to advance SU to a 6-1 lead.

Julianna Verni struck out five batters and only allowed two walks through a complete game. Defensively, Knight tallied nine putouts at first base.

Buffalo added a run in each of the first and fifth innings, but the Bulls were unable to surpass the Orange's lead, ultimately giving Syracuse a 6-2 victory.

OF NOTE

Grace Weaver led the team with six putouts in the first game.
Madelyn Lopez's two-hit performance was her eighth multi-hit game of the season.
The Orange finished the day with four stolen bases.
Verni recorded five strikeouts, her fourth consecutive game fanning five or more.

UP NEXT
Syracuse will travel to Louisville for its last road ACC series of the season. The Orange will take on the Cardinals from Friday, April 24 through Sunday, April 26. Each matchup will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
