CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.- The Orange softball team (14-17, 3-10) fell to Boston College (12-29, 3-12), 7-6 in the series finale. Syracuse had claimed the first two contests of the three-game weekend.
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
Boston College struck first, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Eagles added another run to the scoresheet at the bottom of the third. Â
Lauren Fox outran the throw to first base after she hit the ball to the second baseman. Kendall Gaunt stepped up to the plate, hitting the ball into a right-field pocket. Gaunt reached second base on the hit as Fox scored from first base.Â
In the top of the fifth inning, Harmony Jackson drew a walk. Jadyn Burney entered as a pinch runner, advancing to second base courtesy of Madelyn Lopez's sacrifice bunt. Vanessa Flores drew a walk to land on first base as Peyton Schemmer stepped up to bat. Schemmer sent the ball down the left-field line for her first hit of the season, a double. Burney would make it across home plate to score.Â
Burney was walked in the top of the seventh inning. Lopez reached on a fielder's choice, as Burney was called out at second. Madison Knight doubled down the left-field line, allowing Lopez to advance to third base. Flores singled up the middle, scoring Lopez to even the score 3-3. Kaylee Eubanks followed with a single that sent Knight home to give Syracuse the lead. A base hit by Fox resulted in two more runs for the Orange as Sophia Taliaferro, pinch running for Flores, and Eubanks crossed home plate.Â
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Boston College was able to bring home two runners to even the score. The Eagles' Nicole Riddell scored the winning walk-off run after a wild pitch was thrown. Syracuse ultimately fell 7-6 in the series finale. Â
