SYRACUSE, N.Y.– The Orange softball team (14-17, 3-10) is set to face Colgate (20-21, 7-5) at Skytop Softball Stadium on Wednesday, April 15 for a doubleheader. Games are scheduled for 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
ORANGE UPDATE
Syracuse won two out of a three-game series against Boston College on the road last weekend, winning 4-1 on Friday and 6-4 in nine innings on Saturday, before falling to the Eagles 7-6 on Sunday. Â The Orange currently stand in 13th place in the conference.
The Orange started out strong on Friday, as Julianna Verni threw a career-high 13 strikeouts. At the plate, Madison Knight recorded her ninth home run of the season, which helped give Syracuse the victory. Gabby Lantier also recorded her fifth multi-hit game of the season, and Grace Weaver totaled a career-high 15 putouts.
On Saturday, 'Cuse battled through two extra innings before securing the 6-4 win. Kaylee Eubanks' double in the top of the ninth inning was the first multi-base hit of her career and put her in scoring position. Rose Cano pinch-hit and singled to bring in a run before Jadyn Burney singled to right field.
Syracuse players Vanessa Flores, Madison Knight and Lauren Fox all had multi-hit games on Sunday afternoon. Knight also led the team with eight putouts. Peyton Schemmer's double at the top of the fifth inning was her first hit this season.
SCOUTING THE RAIDERS
Colgate enters the doubleheader with a 20-21 overall record and a 7-5 conference record. Last weekend, the Raiders hosted Boston University, falling to the Terriers in all three games.
Nora Megenity and Lily Haluska both hit home runs in Sunday's game, but the Raiders were unable to capitalize on them.
Colgate currently stands in third place in the Patriot League, with a 7-5 conference record, capturing series wins over Army and Holy Cross, while sweeping Lehigh. The Raiders split with common opponent Binghamton and tallied a win over Syracuse's ACC opponent Boston College this season.
Last season, the Raiders finished with an 18-33 overall record and placed fifth in the Patriot League, just missing the conference championship. Â
