LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Orange softball team (18-20, 4-12) is set to face Louisville (38-9, 13-5) in a three-game ACC series at Ulmer Stadium this weekend April 24-26.
ORANGE UPDATE
SU enters the matchup after splitting a doubleheader with Buffalo in a mid-week road matchup. Syracuse fell 4-0 in the first game, but came back 6-2 in the second game. The Orange previously came off a 1-2 weekend, securing the last win of the series against Notre Dame with a walk-off home run by Madison Knight, the first player to do so for the Orange since 2022.
Madelyn Lopez had three multi-hit games in the last week, tallying two hits each against Buffalo, Colgate and Notre Dame. Kendall Gaunt recorded two hits against the Raiders, one of which was a three-run home run, in the second game on Wednesday. Kayla Sigala recorded her first double of the season, as Grace Weaver tallied her 100th putout of her freshman season against the Irish.
In the circle, Julianna Verni threw a complete game against Buffalo, securing a win in the second game of the doubleheader. The senior started in two of the three games against Notre Dame, striking 10 batters over the weekend. Verni recorded her 84th strikeout to surpass her career best in a season.
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
Louisville enters the weekend with a 38-9 overall record, and a 13-5 conference record. Louisville currently stand in third place in the ACC. The Cardinals enter the weekend after a midweek 12-8 loss to Kentucky. Last weekend, Louisville swept Pittsburgh, capturing an 8-7 walk-off win in 10 innings in the series opener and collecting two run-rule wins 15-9 and 10-2.
The team has two players on Softball America's Freshman Watch List, Jayden Gohs and Addy O'Dell.
Last season the Cardinals finished with a 26-25 record and placed 10th in the ACC. Louisville fell to Virginia in the first round of the conference tournament, ultimately ending its season.
