BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Orange softball team (17-19, 4-12) is set to face Buffalo (21-27, 8-13) in a doubleheader at Nan Harvey Field on Tuesday, April 21. Â
ORANGE UPDATE
The Orange went 1-2 against Notre Dame in their three-game series last weekend, falling 2-6 in Friday's game, 5-9 on Saturday, and securing a walk-off win on Sunday. The team currently stands in 13th place in the conference headed into the doubleheader on Tuesday.
The Orange started out strong on Friday, with Madison Knight leading the team in putouts, tallying ten. Knight and Madelyn Lopez both recorded multi-hit games, the fourth and seventh of the season respectively.
On Saturday, 'Cuse battled into the seventh inning before falling to the Irish 5-9. Kayla Sigala collected her first double of the season, and Kiami Tulua hit her fourth home run of the season. Tulua and Taylor Davison led the team in putouts, combining for 16 total.
Knight's walk off home run on Sunday was the team's first since Angel Jasso did so against North Carolina on May 8, 2022. Knight's two-run homer in her previous plate appearance in the fifth inning would tie the game up at 2-2. In the seventh inning, Lopez stole a homerun from the Irish. Julianna Verni also recorded her 84th strikeout of the season, which marks the most strikeouts thrown in a season in her career. Grace Weaver recorded her 100th putout of her freshman season on a double play in the sixth inning.
SCOUTING THE BULLS
Buffalo enters the doubleheader with a 21-27 overall record and an 8-13 conference record. The Bulls faced Central Michigan last weekend, splitting Friday's double header, losing 7-16 in six innings and winning 10-8 before dropping the series finale 2-5 on Saturday.
The team has one notable transfer this season, Tabitha von Kolen from Canisius was last year's MAAC rookie of the year. The Bulls finished last season 17-33, 8th in the MAC conference and did not make the MAC tournament.
