Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Orange softball team (11-14, 0-7) is set to face Pittsburgh (18-16, 4-8) on the road this weekend. 'Cuse and the Panthers will compete in a three-game series from April 2 - 4.
ORANGE UPDATE
Syracuse fell to NC State at home last weekend, falling to the Wolfpack 1-5 and 0-10 in five innings in its doubleheader on Sunday. The team currently stands in 15th place in the conference headed into their road games this weekend.
Graduate student Jayden Burney scored the only run for the Orange against the Wolfpack, taking a hit by pitch and stealing her way to second and scoring on an error in the field. Â
'Cuse had a weekend of defense, adding four double plays to their stat sheet through both matchups. Madison Knight threw her fourth complete game of the season in the first game on Sunday, and Vanessa Flores led the team in putouts, with five at first base.
SU will kick off the weekend on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Vartabedian Field, followed by a 6 p.m. first pitch on Friday and a 2 p.m. faceoff on Saturday. Â
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
Pittsburgh enters the weekend at home with an 18-16 overall record and a 4-8 ACC record. Last weekend, the Panthers traveled to No. 18 Virginia, falling to the Cavaliers in all three games. Pitt hosted Penn State on Tuesday, Mar. 31 for a mid-week matchup, walking off the Nittany Lions 8-7.
Graduate student Tieley Vaughn broke up the Cavaliers' no hitter on Friday with a double, and graduate student KK Esparza launched a solo home run in Saturday's contest.
Against Penn State, Calle Henne and Camryn Murphy each hit home runs. The Panthers won after Gracie Helton hit a sacrifice fly to send Payton Harris across home plate.
Helton was named to the D1 Softball's Freshman Watch List prior to the start of the season.
Pittsburgh currently stands in eleventh place in the ACC. The Panthers were picked to finish in 13th place, according to the ACC Preseason Poll.
Last season, Pittsburgh ended 12th in the ACC and finished the season 20-32. The Panthers had a 7-17 conference record and entered the conference tournament as the No. 12 seed. Pitt fell to No. 5 seed Stanford in the first round of the ACC Tournament, ultimately ending its season.

WEEKEND SCHEDULE
The Orange will continue their road stretch, facing Boston College from Friday April 10 to Sunday April 12 at Harrington Athletics Village in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
