SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange softball team (11-12) is set to host NC State (19-14) for a three-game ACC slate at Skytop Softball Stadium from Friday, March 27 to Sunday, March 29. Friday's first game is set for 3 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m. first pitch on Saturday and a noon matinee on Sunday.
ORANGE UPDATE
Syracuse welcomed No. 18 Virginia to Skytop Softball Stadium for its home opener. The Orange played a doubleheader on Saturday, falling 1-7 in the first game, 4-9 in the second game. Sunday's series finale was canceled due to inclement weather.
Sophomore Erika Zamora hit her first career home run in the opening game against the Cavaliers. Madison Knight and Kendall Gaunt also added home runs in game two. In the circle, Sydney Jackson struck out four batters in the second game, the most this season for the sophomore. Madison Knight also pitched a complete game in the opening matchup of the series.
SCOUTING THE WOLFPACK
NC State (19-14) enters the weekend on a five-game losing streak after falling to Pittsburgh in its series finale (3/15), dropping a three-game series to No. 11 Virginia Tech (3/20-22) and losing a mid-week matchup against No. 22 Arizona State (3/25). NC State has had run-rule losses in three of their five latest games.
Senior Hannah Church was ranked as the No. 10 catcher in the nation by Softball America, and three players were named to Softball America's Freshman to Watch List: Carmen Montes De Oca, Carly Short and Morgen Talley.
NC State currently stands in 13th place in the ACC, with a 1-5 conference record. The Wolfpack was picked to finish in 12th place according to the ACC Preseason Poll.
Last year, NC State completed its season with a 25-29 overall record. The Wolfpack had a 6-18 conference record, finishing in 14th place in the ACC. NC State did not make the conference tournament, ultimately ending their season.
