SU Walk-Off Binghamton, Run Rule Winthrop

COULMBIA, S.C.- The Orange softball team (2-2) defeated Binghamton (1-3) and Winthrop (0-2) to go undefeated on the second day of the Gamecock Invitational. Â
Jadyn Burney's walk-off single against Binghamton gave 'Cuse a 4-3 win over the Bearcats, while Madison Knight's home run helped propel Syracuse to an 11-2 victory over Winthrop in six innings.Â
GAME 1 VS. BINGHAMTONÂ
At the bottom of the first inning, Burney singled up the middle to get on base early. Burney stole third base while Madison Knight was at the plate, and Knight's single up the middle was enough to send Burney home and score. SU led 1-0 after the first inning of play.Â
Grace Weaver drew a walk in the bottom of the second inning, eventually advancting to second base on a wild pitch during Gabby Lantier's at-bat. Burney singled through the right side, batting Weaver in to put the Orange up 2-0.Â
Burney tied up the game 3-3 in the sixth inning after a throwing error by Winthrop catcher Elisa Allen. Burney took advantage of the opportunity to advance to third base and continued her stride to home base.Â
The bases were loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning as Madelyn Lopez stepped up to the plate. A fielder's choice caught Knight out at home while Lopez advanced to first base. Burney then stepped to the plate, sending the ball into center field. The runners advanced around the bases, and Weaver crossed home plate to secure a 4-3 walk-off win over the Bearcats.Â
GAME 2 VS. WINTHROPÂ
Lantier found herself on second base at the top of the third inning after drawing a walk and successfully stealing a base. Lopez doubled to left field to bring Lantier home and give the Orange its first run of the game.Â
In the fourth inning, Vanessa Flores singled down the left-field line to reach first base. Sophia Taliaferro entered as a pinch runner, advancing to third base as Knight doubled to right-center. Taylor Davison stepped up to the plate and hit the ball down the left-field line to advance to second base. Taliaferro scored on the play as Knight advanced to third. Milija Seaton's sacrifice fly to center field sent Knight home and added another run to the board for 'Cuse.Â
Burney singled to center field to start the fifth inning. She stole second base and advanced to third on a throwing error by Winthrop catcher Leaha Rushing. Flores reached first base after a fielding error by the Eagles shortstop Grayson Buckner, allowing Burney to score. Next at the plate, Knight hit a home run to left field, sending Flores and herself across home plate.Â
The Orange took charge, scoring five runs in the sixth inning. Flores singled to right-center, advancing Burney to third base and driving in Lopez and Lantier. Mackenzie Knight entered as a pinch runner for Flores and stole second base. Madison Knight doubled to center field, bringing Mackenzie Knight and Burney home. The utility player then advanced to third on a groundout and eventually scored on a wild pitch. The Orange secured an11-2 victory over Winthrop.Â

- Madison Knight recorded her second home run of the season and the sixteenth in her career in the game against Winthrop. Â
- Jadyn Burney tallied four runs and four hits in today's games.Â
- Burney stole three bases against Binghamton, the most by a Syracuse player since April 8, 2022 when Angel Jasso stole three bases against Notre Dame.
- Jackie Pengel pitched 4.1 innings, striking out three Winthrop batters. Â
- Madison Knight pitched a full 7.0 innings against Binghamton, striking six batters out. Additionally, she recorded nine putouts.Â
- Kaimi Tulua tallied eight putouts against Binghamton. Â
- Madelyn Lopez recorded five at-bats, the most since seven Orange players did against California on May 3, 2025.Â
- The Orange's win over Binghamton is the first time the team has had a walk-off win since March 19, 2025, against Niagara.Â
- 'Cuse's victory over Winthrop is the first time the team won a run-rule game since facing Boston College on April 26, 2025.Â

Syracuse will face Winthrop on Sunday, Feb. 8 at 10 a.m. to conclude play at the Gamecock Invitational.Â
