The No. 11 Syracuse University women's rowing team put up a valiant effort against No. 8 California on Sunday to close out its weekend at Redwood Shores, Calif. The Golden Bears narrowly won all four races, but the Orange were within 3.5 seconds in each.
Syracuse's second varsity four opened the day, turning in a time of 7:18.4 to finish just 2.7 seconds behind Cal, who finished in 7:15.7. The second varsity eight finished just 2.6 seconds behind Cal (6:29.8) with a time of 6:32.4.
The first varsity eight finished with a time of 6:24.0, just 3.5 seconds off Cal's varsity eight, which turned in a time of 6:20.5. In the final race of the competition for the Orange, Cal (7:07.4) edged Syracuse (7:09.7) by just 2.3 seconds.
Syracuse returns to racing on April 26 against No. 4 Princeton, No. 6 Tennessee and No. 14 Ohio State at Princeton.
