
#11 Orange Place Third At ACC Championship

CLEMSON, S.C. – The No. 11 Syracuse University women's rowing team placed third in the 2025 ACC Championship on Saturday. The Orange earned two podium finishes, with the varsity four taking silver and the second varsity eight earning bronze.
Syracuse scored 104 points to finish behind No. 1 Stanford, which swept all five grand finals on the way to 132 points and its first ACC title, and No. 13 Virginia, which edged the Orange with 106 points. Syracuse finished two points clear of No. 9 California in fourth place. The Orange were among three teams to send all five boats to grand finals during Friday's heats, along with the Cardinal and Golden Bears.
After an hour delay Saturday due to lightning, Syracuse opened the morning with a fourth-place result (6:34.433) in the third varsity eight grand final. The Cardinal set the pace with a time of 6:27.126, followed by Notre Dame (6:32.719) and California (6:33.889). The Orange narrowly beat Virginia (6:34.649) with North Carolina (6:38.199) rounding out the field.
The Orange then competed in the second varsity four grand final, finishing with a time of 7:17.404. Stanford finished in 6:58.44 to win the race, followed by California (7:05.754), North Carolina (7:07.248), Virginia (7:08.794) and Duke (7:13.094).
Syracuse's varsity four picked up the team's first medal of the event, earning silver with a time of 6:59.184 in the grand final. Stanford took gold with a winning time of 6:53.204 while California earned bronze with a 7:03.130. North Carolina (7:03.690), Duke (7:05.934) and Clemson (7:18.074) were the final three finishers.
In the second varsity eight grand final, Syracuse won bronze with a time of 6:21.327, finishing behind Stanford (6:08.550) and Virginia (6:14.900) on the podium. Duke finished fourth (6:23.517) followed by SMU I6:28.780) and California (6:29.873).
The varsity four grand final wrapped up the day, with Syracuse taking home a fourth-place finish (6:13.804) behind Stanford (5:58.627), Virginia (6:08.200) and California (6:09.550). The Orange beat Duke (6:20.507) and Clemson (6:23.657) to the line.
Four Orange rowers took home All-ACC honors – Ellie-Kate Hutchinson (First Team), Zoe Acosta (Second Team), Aphrodite Gioulekas (Second Team) and Caileigh Grimes (Third Team).
Syracuse will now await the NCAA Championship selection show on Tuesday. The Orange would extend its program record of consecutive NCAA appearances to five with an at-large bid.
