
#11 Syracuse Wins Two Heats, Sends All Five Boats To ACC Grand Finals

CLEMSON, S.C. – All five boats for the No. 11 Syracuse University women's rowing team advanced to grand finals Friday at the 2025 ACC Championship, with the Orange second varsity eight and varsity four both winning their heats on Lake Hartwell.
Syracuse's varsity eight and third varsity eight both finished second in their heats to advance to Saturday's final, while the second varsity four placed third to punch its ticket to the grand final.
The third varsity eight opened the morning for the Orange with a time of 6:43.716, narrowly finishing behind California (6:42.526). North Carolina also advanced to Saturday's grand final with a time of 6:44.759 with Duke (6:46.036), Boston College (7:04.839) and Miami (7:07.099) rounding out the field. Top-seeded Stanford (6:41.253) turned in the fastest time in the first heat.
Syracuse's varsity eight finished with a 6:20.879 in its heat to finish just behind California (6:18.966). Clemson was the third boat to advance to the grand final from the second heat with a time of 6:28.339, edging out Louisville (6:28.729). SMU (6:33.999) and Notre Dame (6:37.769) rounded out the second heat. Stanford (6:08.021) and Virginia (6:15.951) had the best times in the first heat.
The Orange picked up their first win of the day in the second heat for the second varsity eight. Syracuse (6:30.026) won the race over California (6:33.399) and SMU (6:35.532) to make it to the grand final. The Orange also defeated Clemson (6:39.532), Louisville (6:43.286) and Miami (6:48.786) in that race. Stanford (6:16.001) and Virginia (6:18.818) posted the best times in the opening heat.
Syracuse's varsity four made it two heat wins in a row for the Orange, finishing in 7:05.751 to defeat California (7:09.514) and North Carolina (7:12.957), who advanced to the grand final. Miami (7:30.021), SMU (7:32.114) and Louisville (7:37.774) were also in Syracuse's heat. Stanford (7:01.586) was the fastest in the first race.
The Orange got their fifth boat into the grand finals in the final heat of the morning, with the second varsity four posting a time of 7:33.650 to clinch the last spot from the heat behind California (7:19.830) and Virginia (7:26.263). Syracuse beat Clemson (7:40.673), Boston College (7:55.256) and SMU (8:08.320) to advance. Stanford's 7:15.207 in the first heat was the best in the class.
The defending ACC champions will look to win a second straight conference title on Saturday. Syracuse's first race, the third varsity eight grand final, is set to begin at 8:15 a.m. The Orange are one of three teams with boats in all five grand finals, along with Stanford and California.
