Tennis Excels In Doubles On First Day Of Fall Season

PHILADELPHIA – The Syracuse University women's tennis team had a strong showing in doubles Friday on the first day of the Penn Invitational. This is Syracuse's first tournament of the fall season.
Syracuse won five of six doubles matches on Friday, with two doubles tandems going 2-0. Miyuka Kimoto and Nelly Knezkova led the charge with a pair of doubles victories, including one over Esha Velaga and Eileen Wang, the No. 14 ranked team in the current ITA rankings. The tandem of Constance Levivier and Serafima Shastova matched them with a 2-0 mark in doubles themselves. Shiori Ito and Anastasia Sysoeva also had a doubles win for the Orange.
Shastova and Levivier carried their doubles success into singles, as they both won in straight sets to finish 3-0 in total on the day.
The Penn Invitational will continue on Saturday with doubles at 9 a.m. There will also be two rounds of singles tomorrow, with the first starting at approximately 10:15 and the second slated for 2:30 p.m.
