Shiori Ito, Nelly Knezkova, Serafima Shastova and Anastasia Sysoeva of the Syracuse University women's tennis team have been named to the 2025 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, which was announced on Tuesday, May 13.
The honor recognizes the nation's top tennis student-athletes for their combined performance on the court and in the classroom. To earn recognition, student-athletes are required to be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, and they must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or above. For women's tennis, eligible nominees need to participate in a minimum of 70% of total matches played by the squad during the season that include team scores.
Ito, a senior communication and rhetorical studies major, won 10 singles and six doubles matches this spring. Six of the singles victories came at the No. 5 position with her other wins coming at the Nos. 3, 4 and 6 slots. She won four singles matches in ACC contests, including at the No. 5 spot in Syracuse's ACC Tournament victory over Boston College. This is Ito's third consecutive appearance on the CSC Academic All-District Team.
In her first year with the Orange, Knezkova, a sophomore majoring in psychology, posted 10 singles victories and seven doubles wins. Knezkova clinched a pair of 4-3 Syracuse triumphs with dramatic three-set singles triumphs against both Florida State and Louisville. All of Knezkova's singles appearances this season came at the top two positions. In doubles, Knezkova teamed up with Miyuka Kimoto for a 6-3 victory versus the No. 11 ranked pairing in the country against Duke.
Shastova was also a newcomer to Syracuse this season, as the junior psychology major went 12-5 in singles this season while adding 11 doubles victories. Shastova won seven ACC singles matches this season, including a crucial victory in the 4-3 second-round ACC Tournament win over Clemson. Shastova was No. 118 in the most recent ITA singles rankings. Shastova also qualified for the NCAA Individual Championships in the fall after becoming the fourth player in the Younes Limam era to win an ITA Regional singles title.
Sysoeva has now earned CSC Academic All-District recognition in each of her first two seasons with the Orange, as the junior double majoring in finance and information management and technology finished third on the team with nine doubles wins on the campaign. Sysoeva paired with Kimoto for a pair of doubles victories at the ACC Tournament, including a crucial second-round victory against Clemson's No. 2 pairing which was ranked No. 63 by the ITA.
