SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse University women's tennis head coach Younes Limam has announced Margarita Kotok as the team's new assistant coach.
A Mid-American Conference (MAC) champion as a student-athlete, Kotok joins the Orange with over a decade of tennis instruction experience, most recently as an assistant coach at nearby University of Rochester.
Kotok joined the Yellowjackets after graduating from the University at Buffalo. Working with both men's and women's tennis programs at Rochester, she helped guide the program to 90 dual match victories between 2017 and May 2024. During that span, teams and individuals were ranked both regionally and nationally. Kotok was named ITA Northeast Region Men's Assistant Coach of the Year at the conclusion of the 2018-19 season.
A top recruiter, Kotok helped bring in the Yellowjackets' first All-American, who later reached the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals in 2021-22, the program's first to reach that deep in the Tournament in over 20 years. Kotok was responsible for recruiting both domestically and internationally. Additionally, she helped schedule matches, organize transportation, logistics and program budget while monitoring student-athlete academic success.
Since October 2023, Kotok has served as the Director of Afterschool and Summer Programs for Wayne County Community Schools at the Lyons Community Center. In this role, she has mentored youth ages 14–24 in the STEADY Work program, helping them develop essential life skills and secure job placements within the community by partnering with local business owners to create opportunities. She has also supported students in staying academically focused to increase their chances of graduating. Additionally, she has developed program curricula, activities, and schedules for more than 60 children.
Kotok began as a tennis instructor at the Tennis Club of Rochester (2010-15) and later the Miller Tennis Center (2016-17), working with a wide range of ages from 4 years old to players in their 70s and beyond. While working as an instructor, Kotok designed and implemented customized plans for the unique needs for each participant.
As a student-athlete at the University at Buffalo, Kotok won the Mid-American Conference title in 2017 and served as a team captain for the 2016-17 season. The single-season doubles record holder, winning 26 matches in 2016-17, Kotok amassed an 80-34 record in doubles play, becoming one of just three Bulls with at least 80 career doubles wins. Kotok won 61 singles matches at UB, ranking in the program's top 15. During the 2013-14 season, Kotok won 22 singles matches, tying for 13th all-time at UB. During her rookie season (2013-14), Kotok won 21 doubles matches, tying for 11th in single-season history with the Bulls.
Hailing from Macedon, New York, Kotok graduated from the University at Buffalo in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in communications.
