
Shastova Advances To Singles Quarterfinals At ITA New England Regionals

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore Serafima Shastova won a pair of singles matches Saturday at ITA New England Regionals, including a victory from a set down in the round of 16, to close out another strong day for the Syracuse University women's tennis team at Harvard.
Shastova dropped the opening set of her bout against Yale's Ann Wright Guerry 7-5 in the round of 16, but stormed back to win the next two frames 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the quarterfinals. Shastova also defeated Brown's Addison Ahlstrom 6-3, 6-0 in the round of 32 in the morning. The second-set shutout was her third 6-0 set win in singles this fall. The sophomore will face Yale's Mirabelle Brettkelly in the final eight on Sunday. The quarterfinals will be the only round of singles contested tomorrow.
In doubles, Shiori Ito and Nelly Knezkova punched their ticket to the round of 16 with an 8-2 win against the Marist tandem of Caterina Assi and Viktoria Lorenzton. The duo will face Anna-Raphaelle Seghi and Angel You of Harvard in Sunday's round of 16.
Shastova also advanced to the round of 16 in doubles alongside partner Constance Levivier, as the duo topped Nikki Fernando and Katharina Spieth of Rhode Island 8-5. They are also into Sunday's round of 16 where they will take on Lindsey Hofflander and Phoebe Peus of Brown.
