Syracuse Posts Four Wins On Day Two At ITA New England Regionals

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Shiori Ito and Serafima Shastova are both through to the second round in the main singles draw at ITA New England Regionals, as are both doubles teams competing for the Syracuse University women's tennis team at the event as the Orange completed the second day of competition on Friday at Harvard.
Shastova lost just three games in a 6-2, 6-1 singles triumph against Harvard's Anna-Raphaelle Serghi. This was the sophomore's third singles win this fall where she has dropped three or fewer total games, and these were the sixth and seventh sets this fall that she won without dropping more than two games. Shastova will face Addison Ahlstrom of Brown in the round of 32 on Saturday.
Ito cruised to a first-round singles victory as well, dispatching Muskan Mahajan of Boston College 6-2, 6-2. It was the senior's third victory of the fall, all of which have come in straight sets. Ito will take on Dartmouth's Michela Moore in Saturday's second round.
In doubles, Shastova also advanced to the second round alongside partner Constance Levivier, as the duo took down Alexandra Torre and Nadia Barteck of Boston College 8-4. The tandem improved to 3-0 on the season with the victory. Ito and Nelly Knezkova also won Friday, defeating Fairfield's tandem of Maria Gell and Sarah Liu for their second win together this fall. Both tandems will play their second-round contests tomorrow.
Saturday's schedule includes the rounds of 32 and 16 in the main singles draw and the round of 32 in doubles. Play will begin with singles at 9 a.m. Full draws for both singles and doubles can be found by clicking here.
