Tennis Finishes Day One At ITA New England Regionals

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Junior Constance Levivier competed in the singles qualifying draw Thursday at ITA New England Regionals for the Syracuse University women's tennis team, losing a tight battle in the opening round.
Levivier fell 6-7 (5), 6-7 (5) to Viktoria Lorentzon of Marist in a back-and-forth affair that featured two tiebreak sets. Both players traded breaks and momentum throughout the contest, which culminated in a second-set breaker. Levivier trailed 5-2 before winning the next three points, the last two courtesy of clean forehand winners. However, Lorentzon won the next two points to secure the victory.
Syracuse will be back in action tomorrow in the first round of the main doubles and singles draws. Play is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. In singles, Shiori Ito and Nelly Knezkova will both open against Boston College opponents, with Knezkova slotted to face Tola Glowacka at 9 a.m. and Ito taking on Muskan Mahajan at approximately 10:30 a.m. Serafima Shastova will play Harvard's Anna-Raphaelle Serghi in her first match at 10:30 a.m.
In doubles, Ito and Knezkova will pair up for their first-round doubles match against Fairfield's Maria Gell and Sarah Liu of Fairfield. Levivier and Shastova will open their tournament against Alexandra Torre and Nadia Barteck of Boston College. Doubles play will not begin before 11:30 a.m.
