'Cuse Falls Short to UConn in Home Opener

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- Syracuse (0-1-0) fell 1-0 to Connecticut (1-0-0) in Thursday night's season opener at SU Soccer Stadium. This was the Huskies' first win over 'Cuse since 2009, snapping the Orange's four-game winning streak.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Huskies struck first, scoring the only goal of the game in the 18th minute. Austin Brummett netted the ball on an assist from Nicolas Tomerius. The Orange were the more dangerous team in the second half, getting off 10 shots, but none were on goal. Overall, 'Cuse led Connecticut in possession total and out-shot the Huskies,14-5.

OF NOTE:

Nine fouls were issued for each team throughout the game, including two yellow cards for each as well.
Defenders Ernest Mensah Jr,. Tim Brdaric, Gavin Wigg and Garrett Holan played in all 90-minutes of the game, along with goalkeeper Tomas Hut.
The attendance for tonight's game reached 1,561.
