Men's Soccer Announces Annual Team Awards

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The Orange men's soccer team has named six players to its annual team awards, head coach Ian McIntyre announced. Â
Â
Most Improved Player: Garrett HolmanÂ
The defender from Hamburg, New Jersey, has played a key role this season. The sophomore started in all 19 matches he appeared in, playing a total of 1,609 minutes. Holman also recorded his first career goal in the Orange's 2-0 win over California on Sept. 27.Â
Recent winners of this award include Andre Cutler-DeJesus, Jackson Glenn, and Tomas Hut.Â

Rookie of the Year: Landon DarkoÂ
The freshman midfielder made his career debut in the Orange's home opener against Connecticut. Darko made his first career start against Stanford, playing 41 minutes. The Fairburn, Georgia, native recorded three goals and two assists this season, accounting for eight points.Â

Previous players with this title include Chimere Omeze, Ryan Raposo, Deandre Kerr, and Mo Adams.Â
Golden Boot: Carlos ZambranoÂ
Zambrano was the leading scorer this season, tallying a total of 13 points through five goals and three assists. The senior from Miami, Florida, saw action in all 20 matches while making 11 starts. Zambrano recorded a hat-trick against Colgate on Sept. 23, marking a pivotal turning point in the season and helping McIntyre towards his 251st win with SU, the most by a head coach in program history. The midfielder found unique ways to score, collecting two Olimpico goals this season as well.Â

In the past, Nate Opoku, Miles Robinson, Levonte Johnson, Deandre Kerr and Tajon Buchanan have been recipients of this award.Â

Most Valuable Player: Tomas HutÂ
Playing the entirety of every match, Hut starred in 20 matches this season, making 76 saves. The goalkeeper has had a remarkable season, breaking his career-high saves in a game three times, his most being nine against No. 4 NC State in a crucial ACC playoff match. The graduate student has been named to the All-ACC Third Team as well as the ACC All-Tournament team. Additionally, he has received the CSC All-America Academic Award, being named to the Third Team and has earned a spot on the 2025 United Soccer Coaches All-South Region Second Team. Hut has recently been drafted by Red Bull New York in the 2026 MLS SuperDraft to continue his playing career professionally.Â

Dean Foti Award: Kyle JansenÂ
This award is given annually to the 'Cuse soccer player with the most positive influence on the team's attitude. Jansen, a sophomore from Marietta, Georgia, has displayed a strong team spirit throughout this season through practices and at matches. Â

Recent recipients of this award include Stephen Betz, Stephen Hasse and Andre Cutler-DeJesus.Â

SUcceSSÂ Award: Santiago FriasÂ
The SUcceSS Award recognizes the individual who best personifies courage, desire, and an unselfish devotion to his teammates. Frias spent his graduate season at Syracuse after previously playing at UAlbany and Akron in his undergraduate years. The defender appeared in 12 matches this season, making his Orange debut against Connecticut on Aug. 21. Throughout his career, Frias collected two goals and stared in 45 matches in total.Â

Previously, Noah Singelmann, Julio Fulcar, Jason Smith and Max Kent have won this award.Â
