Brdaric Goal Gives Orange First Win of Season

BALTIMORE, Md- Syracuse (1-1-0) defeated Loyola Maryland (1-1-0) in a 1-0 match in Sunday's road face off. Tim Brdaric headed the ball in on a corner kick in the 11th minute to give the Orange their first win of the year.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED:Â Â
Syracuse converted on its first set piece of the game.Sachiel Ming served the ball into the box where Brdaric scored on a header for his first goal in an orange kilt.
The defense stayed tight, keeping Loyola to only two shots in the first half, none of them on target, keeping the score 1-0 heading into the locker room at intermission.Â
A Syracuse yellow card  in the 85th minute gave the Greyhounds a chance to score, but Orange goalkeeper Tomas Hut swiped the ball within the crowd of defenders on the free kick, keeping Loyola off the scoreboard.Â
Landon Darko's pass to Ming nearly led to the Orange adding to the lead in the 88th minute, but his shot narrowly hit the post, keeping the lead at one. A defensive battle left both teams scoreless in the final half, ultimately giving the Orange their first win of the season.Â

OF NOTE:Â Â
- The Syracuse defense held Loyola to 11 shots in the game, compared to the Orange's 13, five of them on target.Â
- Senior forward Michael Acquah accounted for five shots during the game, with sophomore midfielder Sachiel Ming tallying four.Â
- Both teams drew a total of 21 fouls, eight of which were committed by the Orange.Â
