SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The Orange men's soccer team (7-6-2, 4-3-0) stunned No.22 North Carolina (8-3-4, 2-1-4) in a 1-0 thriller match. Landon Darko scored the sole goal in the 36th minute to give North Carolina its first conference loss of the season.Â
Â
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ Â
Orange goalkeeper Tomas Hut collected four saves in the first half of play as the Tar Heels were unable to find the back of the net despite their six shot attempts and five corner kicks.Â
In the 36th minute, Carlos Zambrano broke away to dribble the ball down the field. Caught up among defenders, Zambrano passed the ball across to find freshman Landon Darko, who fired the ball right past North Carolina goalkeeper Andrew Cordes, putting the Orange up 1-0 in the first half.Â
A foul on Chimere Omeze set the Tar Heels up to even the score, but North Carolina's Gabriel Bracken Serra missed the shot high in the 72nd minute.Â
Down a player in the last seven minutes, the Orange defense kept strong, preventing the Tar Heels from putting a goal on the board. Syracuse collected its second ranked win of the season- twice in a row at home.Â
