Orange Fall 1-0 Against Duquesne

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange men's soccer team dropped its match 1-0 to Duquesne on Friday at the SU Soccer Stadium. Syracuse had 17 shots, nine of which were on target.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:Â Â Â
Syracuse (2-2-1) was the more dangerous team in the first half, outshooting Duquesne, 10-2. Carlos Zambrano fired a shot at the goal in the 24th minute, leaving goalkeeper Diego Chavez to fight for control of the ball, while Chimere Omeze nearly snuck a kick to put the Orange up, but couldn't get to it in time. A foul on Duquesne's Alex Posado in the 21st minute gave 'Cuse an opportunity to score on a free kick near the box, but Sachiel Ming missed high over the net.Â
Duquesne's Hakon Dagur Matthiasson scored the lone goal of the game in the 62nd minute off of a turnover when he intercepted a pass from Garrett Holman. In the 70th minute, a yellow card was issued to Duquesne's Grant McIntosh after a kick to Tim Noeding, but Syracuse was unable to close the gap. The Orange kept up the pressure to equzlize the score, but fell short.

- Syracuse outshot its opponent for the third match in a row, taking 17 attempts against Duquesne compared to the Dukes' four.Â
- The Orange fell short of a goal despite having six corner kicks.Â
- A total of 27 fouls were committed throughout the game.Â
- Head coach Ian McIntyre remains tied for the most wins in Syracuse men's soccer history with 141 across his 16 years with the Orange.

Syracuse will continue its stretch at home, hosting New Haven on Monday, Sept. 8. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. at SU Soccer Stadium.Â
