
'Cuse Draws with New Haven

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The Orange men's soccer team tied 0-0 with New Haven in Monday night's match. Despite Syracuse's 22 shots, the Orange fell short of putting up a goal.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED:Â Â Â
The Orange offense took the charge in the first half, attempting 11 shots, five of which were on target. The intensity was high, starting as early as the 2nd minute when Michael Acquah was pulled back while charging towards the goal, resulting in a yellow card on New Haven's Filipe Lemos. Sachiel Ming took the shot for the penalty kick, but goalkeeper Alessandro Bizzini got his hand on it to deflect the ball off the field.Â

The energy returned in the second half, with Syracuse holding tight onto the ball through another 11 shot attempts. Acquah led the squad with five shot attempts, three of them on goal as he continued to put pressure on the defense. The Orange kept it close to the very end with four different players attempting shots at the goal in the final minutes but were unable to close with a score.Â

OF NOTE:Â Â Â
- Syracuse offense dominated the charge, outshooting its opponent for the third game in a row, and retaining 68 percent of possession time.Â
- The Orange took eight corner kicks but fell short of netting the ball off of themÂ
- Syracuse held the Chargers to only two shots in the entire 90-minutes.Â
- New Haven was issued three yellow cards throughout the game in the 2nd, 42nd and 75th minutesÂ

The Orange will cap off their home stretch and enter conference play, hosting Stanford to the pitch on Saturday Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. The Cardinals, who are currently at the top spot in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, looks to keep a high rank after a loss on the road to unranked Louisville in conference play last Friday Sept. 5.
