'Cuse Falls Short at #19 Duke

DURHAM, N.C.-Â The Orange men's soccer team fell 2-0 to No.19 Duke in its first road ACC match of the season.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED:Â Â
Duke (3-0-3, 1-0-1) struck first in the seventh minute, with a goal off the left post from Jose Ortega. Max Simpson and Trevor Burns collected assists as they dribbled the ball down the field and through the Orange defenders.Â
A yellow card issued to Kristjan Fortier in the 30th minute gave Duke the chance to increase its lead, but Gavin Wigg headed the ball to block it from entering the net. Duke's Thomas Vold received a yellow card in the 42nd minute giving Syracuse (2-4-2, 0-2-0) a free kick mid-field, but the Orange were unable to make an offensive move on the ball.Â
Into the second half, the score remained one to nil until the 78th minute, when Ulfur Bjornson netted the ball off an pass from Simpson. Vold was also credited with an assist as the Blue Devils sealed the win.Â

OF NOTE:Â Â
- Both teams played a physical game, accumulating 32 fouls total.Â
- The Orange were outshot by its opponent for the second game in a row, recording eight shots compared to Duke's 15.Â
- Goalkeeper Tomas Hut collected three saves throughout the game.Â
UP NEXT:Â
Syracuse will return home to host Central New York foe opponent Colgate at home. The match is set for 7 p.m. at SU Soccer Stadium and will honor Military Appreciation Night.Â
