The No. 11 Syracuse University women's rowing team heads west to race against No. 2 Stanford on Saturday, April 12 and No. 8 California on Sunday, April 13 in Redwood Shores, Calif. All races will be streamed live on Overnght via a paid subscription with live results available here.
The Orange will open the weekend against the second-ranked Cardinal on Saturday, beginning with the varsity four at noon eastern (9 a.m. PST) and the second varsity eight at 12:20 p.m. (9:20 a.m. PST). Syracuse's varsity eight will then take to the course at 1:10 p.m. (10:10 a.m. PST) before the Orange conclude the day with the 2V4 at 2:10 p.m. (11:10 a.m. PST).
On Sunday against the eighth-ranked Golden Bears, Syracuse's 2V4 will open the proceedings at 12:08 p.m. (9:08 a.m. PST). The Orange will then take part in three straight races, with the 2V8 leading off at 1:12 p.m. (10:12 a.m. PST), followed by the V8 at 1:20 p.m. (10:20 a.m. PST) and the V4 at 1:28 p.m. (10:28 a.m. PST).
Syracuse, the defending ACC champions, competed at the Cayuga Cup against No. 5 Yale and Cornell last weekend in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. The Orange finished second in the competition to the Bulldogs, who took home the Cayuga Cup for the third consecutive year. The Orange are ranked No. 11 in this week's CRCA Coaches poll and have been ranked either No. 10 or 11 in all five polls this season.
Stanford, which finished runner-up at last year's NCAA Championship, has been ranked No. 2 in every edition of the CRCA Coaches Poll this season. In their lone race this spring, the Cardinal swept then No. 3 ranked Tennessee on March 29 in four races. Stanford's varsity eight earned ACC Crew of the Week on April 1 for the performance, as the boat finished more than nine seconds ahead of the Lady Vols.
Cal has also held steady at No. 8 since the preseason poll after placing ninth at last spring's NCAA Championship. The Golden Bears kicked off their season by sweeping the California Challenge Cup on March 1 before finishing third out of eight teams in all four finals at the San Diego Crew Classic on March 30, which featured No. 1 Texas and No. 5 Washington.
This will be Syracuse's first time competing in California since the 2016 NCAA Championship, which was held in Gold River. The Orange placed 13th in their third appearance in the event, which was won by Cal.
Stanford and Cal, which have combined to win six national championships, are both in their first season as ACC members. Syracuse will face both teams again at the ACC Championship in Clemson, S.C. on May 16-17.
Redwood Shores is an excellent course for spectating and allows multiple viewing points of the 2,000-meter race. Fans are encouraged to watch from the bridge just past the 1,000 meter mark (located here) or at the finish line just outside the Grand Bay Hotel located at 223 Twin Dolphin Dr., Redwood City, Calif. While there is no designated parking for spectators, there is parking under the bridge (Bridge Parkway) and in the neighborhood near the finish line.
