From the Start
- The penultimate home field hockey weekend of the regular season is here as the Orange host the two newcomers to ACC Field Hockey: Stanford and Cal.
- Syracuse meets Stanford for the first time as conference opponents and for the first time since 2022. The Orange and Golden Bears reignite a series that has been in hibernation since 2019.
- The Orange and Cardinal meet for a second-straight time in Syracuse as the Orange picked off Stanford 4-0 on October 5, 2022 at J.S. Coyne Stadium. This will be the first time in series history the teams meet in the same location in back-to-back games.
- Syracuse and Cal will meet as ranked opponents for the first time in series history. Sunday's showdown will be just the second-ever meeting between the Orange and Cal in Syracuse.
- Both games will be carried on ACC Network Extra, with Max Gifford and Gino Antimarino on the call Friday while Max Gifford and Ian Nicholas will cover Sunday's contest.
Shut the Door
- Syracuse picked up  its third-straight shutout on Sunday at No. 9 Duke (the Blue Devils won in the shootout, but it was 0-0 getting to that point and declared a shutout).Â
- That clean sheet was the fifth shutout in 11 games this season. Syracuse did not allow a goal for a stretch of 209 minutes and 30 seconds until early in the Louisville game.
- It marked the first time since 2022 the Orange secured three straight shutouts. Syracuse opened that campaign with a 5-0 win over Sacred Heart, a 6-0 win over Vermont, and a 5-0 win at Kent State, all played away from home. The current run of three shutouts was also a series of road games: a 4-0 win at Longwood, a 1-0 win at Wake Forest, and a 1-0 setback at No. 9 Duke.
- The Duke shutout was the first time the Orange kept a top-20 team off the board since a 3-0 win at No. 16 Boston College on Sept. 30, 2022 and the first time Syracuse blanked a top-20 team on the road since a 3-0 win at No. 25 Monmouth on Sept. 11, 2022.
- Since dropping its ACC opener 5-0 at UNC in mid-September, Syracuse has allowed just one goal in ACC play, the aforementioned Louisville goal.Â
- Louise Pert is tied for the best shutouts per game rate in the ACC and is one of just two league netminders with a 50 percent shutout rate with at least four ACC games played.
Winner Winner
- Bo van Kempen must love chicken dinners because she has racked up the game-winners this year.
- Through the first 11 games of the season, van Kempen has accounted for six of the eight game-winning goals for the 'Cuse, including four of the last five.
- The graduate student has the second-most game-winning goals for the Orange since joining the ACC in 2013.Â
- Assistant coach Emma Russell '16 racked seven during the 2014 season while Charlotte de Vries '23 also scored seven in her senior season (2022). De Vries accounted for six game-winning goals as a rookie in 2019.
Protect Coyne
- Like a bank vault, you have to protect the Coyne.
- The Orange are 4-1 at home this season thanks to back-to-back wins over No. 16 Louisville and No. 14 Princeton a week ago.
- Syracuse went 4-3 at J.S. Coyne Stadium last year, suffering its first home set back since the end of the 2021 season in the Virginia game.
- That double overtime loss against No. 6 Virginia in 2023 snapped a 13-game home winning streak at the midpoint of last season.
- Since the new surface at J.S. Coyne Stadium was installed in 2016, following the team's national championship, the Orange have amassed a 50-20 (.714) overall record at Coyne and hold a regular season record of 42-16 (.724).Â
- Syracuse has two perfect home regular seasons in that span: 9-0 in 2022 and 6-0 in 2016.
