Daniella Guyette logged 10 saves and a .667 save percentage to lead No. 10 Syracuse (6-3, 3-2 ACC) to a 6-5 victory over No. 7 Yale (7-1, 1-0 Ivy League) at the JMA Wireless Dome on Tuesday evening.
The win marks Syracuse's sixth-straight triumph and second consecutive against a team ranked in the top-10.
The Orange were led by Caroline Trinkaus' three points, assisting on two goals and scoring the game-winner in the fourth quarter. Joely Caramelli led the team with two goals.
Syracuse held the Bulldogs to a season-low five goals. Entering the contest, Yale had scored at least 11 goals in each of their seven wins. Guyette and Coco Vandiver both had two caused turnovers in the win.
The Orange jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter with Alexa Vogelman scoring the opening goal just under two-and-a-half minutes into the contest. Molly Guzik pushed the lead to 2-0 with her 24th goal of the season before Emma Muchnick made it 3-0 at the 6:22 mark. The Bulldogs got a couple back before the end of the first, bringing the score to 3-2 heading to the second quarter.
Neither team scored for nearly seven minutes to start the second until Caramelli broke the ice on an assist from Trinkaus. Yale answered back moments later before Caramelli notched a second goal with 1:44 to go in the half, giving the Orange a 5-3 lead heading to the break.
The defenses took over the second half, neither team scoring for the first 11 minutes of the half until the Bulldogs capitalized to cut the deficit to 5-4 at the 3:23 mark. Yale capitalized on a player-up opportunity and knotted it up at 5-5 just a minute into the fourth.Â
Needing a goal, Trinkaus delivered. Mackenzie Rich found Trinkaus cutting to the net and she buried the shot to deliver the decisive blow.
Guyette provided four saves in the third to maintain the Syracuse lead before locking it down in the fourth quarter with two more saves. Her 10 saves marked the second time this season she has eclipsed double digit saves.
The Orange return to ACC-play this weekend when they head to Charlottesville, Virginia to take on No. 19 Virginia. First draw is set for 2 p.m. and will air on ACC Network.
