Women's Lacrosse Adds Record-Breaking Draw Specialist Julia Ryan for 2028 Season

Syracuse University women's lacrosse head coach Regy Thorpe announced the addition of graduate transfer Julia Ryan, one of the most prolific draw specialists at any level in NCAA history, for the 2028 season on Monday.
Ryan currently plays at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS), where she rewrote the NCAA record book at the draw and established herself as the most dominant circle presence the sport has seen at any level. In just three seasons, Ryan amassed 892 draw controls, more than any player in NCAA history, at a rate of 15.93 per game. She surpassed the Division III record of 766 (Claire Connolly, Babson, 2022-25) and the all-divisions record of 791 (Maddie Jenner, Duke, 2019-23) well before the conclusion of her junior year.
During her freshman year, she finished second nationally in draw controls with 194 before racking up 346 in 2025 and 352 in 2026, leading the country in both seasons.
Prior to joining the collegiate ranks, she dominated the draw circle in her home state of Washington, leading the state in draw controls and earning All-State and All-Conference honors. She was named a USA Lacrosse All-American and Under Armour All-America West Region team selection.
Ryan will finish her undergraduate career before joining the Orange in 2027-28 for her graduate year.
