NEW HAVEN, CONN. - Freshman Landon Darko's first-half goal gave Syracuse (2-1-1) a 1-0 win at Yale (0-2-0) in the Bulldogs' home opener on Monday. The 'Cuse defense dominated in the match as Yale recorded just one shot.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Tim Noeding fired a shot from beyond the box in the 42nd minute, resulting in a save from Yale's goalkeeper, Conrad Lee, but the loose ball set up Darko to score his first collegiate goal. A yellow card on Yale's Diego Zaffanella in the 83rd minute gave 'Cuse the chance to increase its lead, but Lee saved the shot attempt from Bright Nutornutsi.

OF NOTE:

Syracuse had chances to score on back-to-back corner kicks in the 10^th minute but fell short of targeting the ball into the back of the net.
'Cuse put pressure on the Bulldogs, retaining nearly 67-minutes of possession time.
The Orange defense held a strong line, holding the Bulldogs to only one shot in the entire 90 minutes.
Head Coach Ian McIntyre is now tied for the most wins in Syracuse men's soccer history (141).
