
Syracuse Wins Twice at Seton Hall

The Orange stormed back in the first game, scoring eight runs in the top of the seventh before holding off a late Seton Hall threat in game two to secure the twin bill sweep.

Syracuse used five pitchers across the two contests, striking out a combined 13 batters in the victories.

HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONE:Â
Seton Hall scored a pair of runs in the second and third innings to grab a 4-0 advantage. Erin Howard led off the second frame with a solo home run before Taylor Hill doubled to left later in the inning. In the third, Olivia Gilbert scored on a bases loaded walk while Katey Brennan scored on a passed ball in the next at bat.

Junior Laila Morales-Alves cut the Pirates lead in half in the fourth, slicing the left-center gap to score sophomores Madelyn Lopez and Peyton Schemmer. Down 5-2, Lopez doubled home senior Angel Jasso from first base before scoring on junior Kelly Breen's sacrifice fly to make it a one-run ballgame.

Syracuse's offense erupted in the seventh, scoring eight runs in 11 trips to the plate. Junior Taylor Posner started the comeback efforts with a two-run shot over the left field wall, her 11th homer of the season. Three batters later, Morales-Alves recorded her second two-run double of the contest to level the game at eight. The Orange offense didn't slow down when pinch hitter Vanessa Flores singled home a pair to reach help reach double digits. Syracuse completed the inning with an RBI single off the bat of Jasso before the senior scored from second on Lopez's sacrifice fly.

The Orange used four pitchers in the winning efforts. Senior Lindsey Hendrix, junior Britney Lewinski and graduate student Jessie DiPasquale each tossed two innings. Sophomore Julianna Verni notched a save in back-to-back outings, her fourth of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWO:Â
Syracuse plated two runs in the top of the first on an RBI ground out from Posner and single up the middle by sophomore Madison Knight to score Lopez. Seton Hall leveled the game following back-to-back solo homers from Hill and Kelsey Carr.

Sophomore Peyton Schemmer gave the Orange its lead for good in the top of the second, doubling home a pair. Jasso added an insurance marker, tripling to the right center gap for her seventh three-bagger of the season.

Knight struck out six batters in 3.2 innings, yielding three runs in the no-decision. Verni improved her record to 4-2, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings of relief. Hendrix earned her third career save, getting Lela Allen to fly out to center and Howard to line out to second with the bases loaded to end the game.

- Syracuse improves to 19-14 all time versus Seton Hall and have won 13 of the last 16 meetings between the two teams.
- Syracuse's eight runs in the seventh inning were the most in a frame since the Orange plated nine runs in the fourth inning of the team's 12-1 win against Canisius on April 13, 2022.
- Nine different players scored a run in game one.
- Posner is tied with Amy Kelley (2008), Stephanie Watts (2011) and Jasmine Watson (2013) for the second-most home runs by a junior with 11.
- Verni's fourth save passes Kaia Oliver (2021) for the most saves by a sophomore in program history.
- Verni's fourth save is the most in a season for a pitcher since current-assistant coach Sydney O'Hara had five saves in 2016.
- Syracuse's seven saves as a team marks the third-most in a season in program history.
- Morales-Alves recorded the fifth three-hit game of her career and third four-RBI contest.
- Jasso's seven triples are the most by a Syracuse player in a single season.
