SYRACUSE, N.Y. -Â The Syracuse softball team (25-19, 4-15 ACC) defeated Boston College (21-24, 5-14 ACC), 7-1, behind a standout performance from Madison Knight, who went 3-for-3 at the plate and tossed a complete game with eight strikeouts to lead the Orange to a win in the series opener.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Vanessa Flores gave Syracuse an early lead with a sacrifice fly that brought home Madelyn Lopez, who led off the game with a single. Boston College tied it in the top of the second with an RBI single, but that was the only run Knight would allow all game.
Knight jumpstarted a four-run bottom of the second with a go-ahead solo home run. Kelly Breen followed with an RBI double to score Angie Ramos, and Lopez capped off the inning with a two-run homer, bringing in Breen.
In the fifth, Knight added another RBI with a single that scored Gabby Lantier. Taylor Posner followed with an RBI single of her own to bring home Lopez and make it 7-1.
In the circle, Knight delivered her second-straight complete game, following up her outing at UAlbany (April 23) with another dominant performance. The junior struck out eight, gave up just four hits and two walks, and allowed only one run.
OF NOTE:Â
Syracuse continues its series against BC tomorrow, Saturday, April 26, at 3 p.m. The game will air live on ACCN+.
