
Orange Conclude Regular Season with Strong Showing at Cornell

Members of the Syracuse men's cross country team secured the top-six spots, while the women placed seven in the top-nine to conclude the regular season in a pair of 5ks on Friday at the John Reif Memorial.
Competing unattached, freshman Ben Gabelman won the men's race in 14:33.5, followed by classmates Asher Danielson (14:47.7) and Sam Ricchuiti (14:48.1). Julian Franjieh took fourth, as the top finisher competing for his school at the event, in a time of 14:59.1 Solomon Holden-Betts (15:00.4) and Gabriel Planty (15:00.6) concluded the top-six sweep.
Omar Alsaidi (unattached – 15:15.8), Connell Alford (unattached – 15:17.5) and Drew Zundell (unattached – 15:25.6) placed ninth, 10th and 11th, respectively. Joey Hendershot (15:28.2/14th) and Patrick Malone (15:48.7/18th) rounded out the Orange competitors.
The women were led by Justus Holden-Betts' victory, crossing the line in 17:47.1. Bethany Steiner (17:56.7) was runner-up. After Cornell's Hannah Kersten took third, 'Cuse claimed the next-six spots. Caroline Kirby (18:18.9), Leah Futey (18:33.6), Olivia Shattuck (18:34.0), Lauren Augustyn (18:40.2), Grace Finnegan (18:47.5) and Sarah Cobb (18:55.2) all finished in succession. Madeline Lutz (20:29.7/14th) also finished in the top-15.
The Orange open the championship portion of their season on Friday at the ACC Championships on ACCN.
