
Orange Men Win Harry Groves Spiked Shoe

The Syracuse men's cross country team had a clean sweep of the top-five spots to handily win the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational, collecting their second victory in as many meets to open the season.
In the 5.2 mile event, the No. 12 men were led by Assaf Harari, who won the individual title in a time of 24.58.5. He was followed by Sam Lawler (24.59.9) in second and Ben Gabelman (25.01.3) in third. Benne Anderson (25:03.9) and Connell Alford (25:04.9) rounded out the SU scoring. In total, Syracuse placed 10 of the top-11 scorers.
Behind Syracuse with 15 points, host Penn State was second with 62 points.
The women's team took second, with three runners in the top-10 and all-five scorers finishing in the top-13. The No. 29 Orange (50 points) placed second to No.15 Penn State (19 points) in the 6,000-meter event. Selma Anderson was the top finisher for the 'Cuse women, crossing the line at 20:47.7. Following Anderson was Emma Eastman (20.52.0) in eighth place and Madeline Heintz (20:56.8) in 10th place. Jayden Harberts (12th/21:03.5) and Nyah Hernandez (13th/21:07.9) concluded the scoring.
The Orange's next meet will be at the Gans Creek Classic hosted by Mizzou on Friday, Sept. 26 in Columbia, Missouri.
