
Cross Country Teams Win Harry Lang Invitational

The Syracuse cross country programs had a strong showing at the season opener on Saturday, with the women's team placing seven runners in the top-10 while the men's team swept the finish with all seven runners crossing the finish ahead of the rest of the field.
Jayden Harberts was the top finisher in the women's 5,000-meter race on the course at Colgate University, crossing the line in 17:55.3 while Binghamton's Alice Rappazzo placed second. Carmen Luisi (18:15.7) finished third while Ella Masem was fifth to finish in 18:22.1. The Orange finished seventh through 11th and Beatriz Fernandes rounded out the field for 'Cuse in 19:28.0.
Syracuse scored 24 points as a team to beat Colgate (47) and Binghamton (67) to start the season.
Asher Danielson was the individual winner in the men's 6,000-meter race, crossing the finish in 18:56.3. He was followed by Sam Ricchiuti (18:56.5), Omar Alsaidi (18:59.3), Drew Zundell (19:00.7) and Eamon Burke (19:01.6) to round out the top-5. Connoll Alford and Ruben Rojas Betanzos placed sixth and seventh, respectively.
Syracuse posted the best possible team score on the 6k course to begin the season, with 15 points. Colgate finished second as a team with 56 points while Binghamton was third with 69.
The men extend their Harry Lang Invitational win streak to 10-straight years while the women win for the seventh time in the last nine races that Syracuse was entered in.
Both programs rank in the USTFCCCA Poll to start the season with the men checking in at No. 12 and the women are No. 29.
The Orange are back in action at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational hosted by Penn State on Friday, Sept. 12 in University Park, Pa.
