Varsity Eight Finishes 6th Overall at Head of the Charles

Syracuse University's varsity eight placed sixth overall and fourth among U.S. universities at the 59th Head of the Charles Regatta on Sunday afternoon in Cambridge, Mass. The Orange second varsity eight (2V8) was 22nd overall and fifth in the junior varsity boat class.
The V8, stroked by Declan Fry and steered by senior coxswain Joseph Biondolillo finished the winding five kilometer course in 14:00.872. Harvard was the fastest college crew of the day finishing in 13:49.076 while Dartmouth was second in 13:55.354. Washington was fourth with a time of 13:59.698 while Princeton rounded out the top-5 college crews in 14:01.010. Overall, Cambridge University Boat Club turned in the fastest time finishing in 13:46.593.
The 2V8, stroked by Anders Erlandsen, was 22nd overall finishing the 5K race in 14:21.715 and fifth among U.S. college junior varsity crews. The Orange trailed only Harvard's two entries who were back-to-back in 14:15.563 and 14:16.370, Princeton (14:16.886) and Northeastern (14:20.554) while beating Yale (14:28.469) and Brown (14:49.591). It was coxswain Sam Fernandez's first time racing at the Head of the Charles.
