Eight Orange Race at U23 World Championships This Week
7/22/2025 11:59:00 AM | Men's Rowing
Eight Syracuse University oarsmen will race at the U23 World Rowing Championships this week in Poznan, Poland, representing six different countries. Racing begins at the Lake Malta regatta course located in the center of Poznan July 23 and runs through July 27.Â
Payton Gauthier '26 (Canada), Nick Bryan '28 (New Zealand), Beck Honebein '27 (USA) and Declan Fry '25 (USA) all will represent their national teams in the men's eight while Luke Dunleavy '27 and Jack Gorman '25 will both race in Ireland's men's four without coxswain (M4-) and Niki Strauss '28 is racing in the men's single for Austria. Incoming oarsmen Joe Lynch '29 will race in Australia's men's four without coxswain.Â
Eight athletes competing at the World Rowing Championships marks the most for the Orange in recent years. In 2024, Syracuse had five rowers racing across the U19 and U23 World Rowing Championships in St. Catherine's, Ontario, Canada.Â
Syracuse had one of the best team finishes at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championship Regatta this spring earning 6th in the Ten Eyck Team Points standings and securing a spot for all four boats in the grand final of their respective class. The Orange have made the IRA Grand Final in each of the last five seasons, one of just two teams (Washington) to do so.Â
All races will be streamed live on worldrowing.com and live results will be updated here throughout the week.Â
