Syracuse oarsman Benjamin Campbell-Reide was named the 2025 Jack R. Robinson Inspiration Award recipient Friday morning, announced by the Intercollegiate Rowing Coaces Association (IRCA). Additionally, the IRCA announced its postseason awards including the 2025 Scholar Athletes and All-Americans which featured multiple Orange.Â
The Jack. R. Robinson Inspiration Award is given annually to an athlete or coach who has demonstrated the drive and motivation to overcome adversity or make a major impact on their team or community. This award is named in honor of Cornell Heavyweight Commodore and coxswain, Jack Robinson.
This past fall Campbell-Reide spent weeks in the intensive care units (ICU) at both Crouse Hospital in Syracuse and Brigham Women's in Boston as doctors worked on him to eventually discover a Dieulafoy's lesion, a microscopic gastric lesion on his stomach wall. The medical situation kept Campbell-Reide away from his rowing teammates and off the water until the team's annual spring training trip in Clemson, S.C.Â
Campbell-Reide's return to the water progressed throughout the spring season and he made his way back to the Varsity 8 just before the IRA Championship the last weekend of May. Campbell-Reide helped Syracuse make history as the Orange placed all four boats in the IRA Grand Finals while his crew reached their fifth-straight IRA final for the V8.Â
The 6-foot-8 junior from Oxford, England, was also recognized by the Syracuse University Athletics Department as the 2025 recipient of the Syracuse 8 Courage Award at the annual 'Cuse Awards in May.Â

The IRCA announced the 2025 IRCA-Empacher All-Americans with four Orange making the team. Senior captain Lachlan Doust and stroke seat Declan Fry earned First Team All-America honors while Isaac Evans and Mack Carr were named to the IRCA-Empacher All-America Second Team. All four Orange helped guide Syracuse's Varsity 8 to its fifth-straight IRA Grand Final appearance, just one of two program's (Washington) to do so. Doust and Evans were in the boat for all four of their years with the Orange.Â
Additionally, the IRCA announced the Empacher Scholar Athletes for 2025 earlier this week and the Orange had 12 honorees including Campbell Reide, Stevie Chuck, Alex Dawallu, Luke Dunleavy, Andrew Furlow, Jack Gorman, Ethan Graham, Katherine Kelly, Malakai Leon, Cole Nordby, Gunnar Platt and Christopher Young.
IRCA-Empacher Scholar Athletes must meet the requirements set by the IRCA which include being in their second year or more of eligibility, raced in the top-three boats during the current season or raced at the IRA Championship all while maintaining a 3.5 cumulative GPA through the fall semester.Â
