#9 'Cuse Begins Season vs. CRC and #3 Brown

The Syracuse men's rowing team officially started its season on Saturday in Redwood City, Calif. The Orange will wrap up opening weekend on Sunday against #8 Stanford.
In the morning session, the Varsity 8 lost to California Rowing Club (CRC), a elite-level training club, by 2.2 seconds. Coxed by freshman Lucas Tan and stroked by Declan Fry, Syracuse finished the 2,000-meter course at Redwood Shores in 6:02.0. CRC was steered by Syracuse alum Bricen Nygaard '23.
The 2nd Varsity 8 had a lead on the University of California Freshman Eight but the Bears closed in on the Orange in the final 250 meters to earn the win in 6:06.3 while SU crossed the finish in 6:10.4 (+4.1 seconds).
In the afternoon session, #3 Brown's Varsity Eight had a strong second half to cross the finish in 6:07.4 while SU's Varsity 8 finished in 6:13.3 (+5.6 seconds). Syracuse 2V8 led Brown for 1,500 meters but a final surge by the challengers saw SU (6:12.3) finish 0.5 seconds behind Brown (6:11.8).
Syracuse will wrap up opening weekend with a pair of races against #8 Stanford on Sunday. The Varsity 8 race is set for 9:16 a.m. (12:16 p.m. ET) while the 2V8 will line up with the Cardinal at 9:24 a.m. (12:24 p.m. ET).
