ORANGE UPDATE:
The Orange are coming off a 28-23 campaign in 2024, highlighted by two series wins over ranked opponents. Syracuse earned its first-ever series victory over a top 15 team by taking two of three games from No. 15 Virginia Tech. The Orange later secured a series win against No. 14 Florida State, capped by a dominant 13-5 game-three victory that clinched a spot in the 2024 ACC Softball Championship.
Heading into the 2025 season, the Orange return 14 players, including six who started at least 32 games last year—Madelyn Lopez, Kelly Breen, and Tessa Galipeau in the infield, catcher Laila Morales-Alves, utility player Taylor Posner, and pitcher/utility Madison Knight. Together, Syracuse's returning core accounted for 143 runs, 225 hits, and 155 RBIs in 2024.
The Orange enter the 2025 season with a five-player pitching rotation, led by Madison Knight, who has logged 241.0 innings over two seasons at Syracuse. Across her freshman and sophomore campaigns, Knight has posted a 2.96 ERA with 17 wins, 53 appearances, 33 starts, 14 complete games, and three shutouts. Joining her in the circle are returning pitchers Julianna Verni and Jackie Pengel, along with newcomers Sydney Jackson and Rose Cano.
Head coach Shannon Doepking, now in her seventh season leading the program, introduced nine newcomers to the roster in the offseason, including seven freshmen and two transfers. The incoming first-years include infielders Lauren Fox, Kaimi Tulua, Sophia Taliaferro, Erika Zamora, and Kayla Sigala; pitcher/infielder Sydney Jackson; and catcher Kiara Bellido. The Orange also added two transfers—pitcher/utility Rose Cano from George Washington and infielder Jadyn Burney from Mississippi State.
Heading into the season, the Orange were voted to finished 14th in the new 15-team Atlantic Coast Conference.
SCOUTING THE DOLPHINS, SEAHAWKS, AND ROYALS
Le Moyne enters the 2025 season following a 17-37 campaign in its inaugural year at the NCAA Division I level. Competing in the Northeast Conference (NEC), the Dolphins secured eight conference wins but fell short of qualifying for the four-team NEC Tournament. Their season included a notable 5-2 victory over Sacred Heart, a team that earned a postseason berth. Le Moyne returns 16 letterwinners from last year's squad, including eight starters.
UNCW is coming off a 33-23 campaign, highlighted by a program-best 18 Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) wins and a conference championship. The Seahawks secured an NCAA Tournament berth for the second time in three seasons, using a dramatic seventh-inning comeback to defeat No. 1 seed Campbell, 3-1, in the CAA title game. Ahead of the 2025 season, UNCW was picked second in the CAA Preseason Poll, with outfielder Cassidy Relay earning a spot on the All-CAA Preseason Team.
Queens finished the 2024 season with a 29-26 record, making its first-ever Atlantic Sun (ASUN) Championship appearance before falling to top-seeded Eastern Kentucky. The Royals aim to build on last season's success, welcoming seven newcomers to bolster their experienced roster for the 2025 campaign.
SERIES HISTORY:
Syracuse and Le Moyne will meet for the fifth and sixth times in their all-time series at the UNCW Tournament. Through the first four matchups, the Orange have won all four, most recently defeating the Dolphins 8-6 and 6-1 in a midweek doubleheader on April 24, 2024.
The Orange's games against UNCW and Queens will be the first in the lifetime series against both programs.
