COLLEGE PARK, Maryland – Emma Ward helped No. 6 Syracuse to an early lead, playing a part in the Orange's first five goals, in a 15-9 victory at No. 7 Maryland on Saturday. It marks the Orange's first top-10 win of the season.

Ward finished the day with seven points on three goals and four assists. Olivia Adamson scored a team-high four goals, while Caroline Trinkaus had her first career hat trick.

Defensively, goalkeeper Daniella Guyette made a career-high 11 saves in her second career start, while Kaci Benoit caused three turnovers and picked up three ground balls.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Ward started the scoring for the Orange (2-0) 50 seconds into the contest. After Maryland (0-1) answered to even the score, Ward assisted on Adamson's first goal of the day and then found the back of the net for an unassisted goal. She then assisted on Sam DeVito's goal before scoring on a backhand shot to give Syracuse a 5-1 lead with 7:09 to play in the first quarter.

The Terrapins recorded the final two goals of the first quarter, but Syracuse pushed the advantage to five before taking an 8-4 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

The squads traded goals after intermission before Mileena Cotter scored just before the end of the shot clock to spark Syracuse on a 4-0 scoring run to extend the lead to 14-6 with 14:31 remaining. Maryland got back within five with three-straight goals, but Adamson tallied the final goal of the game on an assist from Ward for the 15-9 final.
