SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The No. 6 seed Orange men's soccer team will face the No. 11 seed Virginia Tech in the First Round of the ACC Championship on Wednesday Nov. 5. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium.
Admission and parking to this event is free, and gates will open one hour before kickoff at 5 p.m.
'Cuse Update
Syracuse concluded its regular season with a 1-1 draw against No. 4 NC State on Friday Oct. 31.
Sophomore Sachiel Ming recorded his first career goal in the 80th minute to tie up the score. The forward found his way through a block of Wolfpack defenders to find the goal. NC State Goalkeeper Logan Erb allowed only his fourth goal of the season.
Graduate Student goalkeeper Tomas Hut collected five saves against NC State, only allowing one goal on a penalty kick against the Wolfpack. He now has 54 saves this season.
The Orange now hold a 4-3-2 record on the road and a 7-6-3 (4-3-1) record overall and clinched the sixth seed in the conference.
Scouting the Hokies
Virginia Tech concluded its regular season with a 3-3 draw against Clemson. The Hokies scored two goals in the 67th and 69th minutes.
Beltran Alvarez scored first for the Hokies in the 44th minute with an assist by Declan Quill. Quill was the next to strike in the 67th minute off an assist from Joao Felicio. Bringing the match to a draw, Yanis Belatrache scored with an assist from Quill in the 69th minute. Quill helped lead the team with his four-point game. Virginia Tech goalkeeper Sam Joseph defended the net, collecting 10 saves against Clemson. The senior has 39 saves this year.
Defender Dagur Traustason leads Virginia Tech offensively with 14 points this season. The freshman has collected seven goals this year.
Virginia Tech entered the United Soccer Coaches poll in the first week at No. 12. The Hokies' highest ranking was at No. 8 in Week 2. Virginia Tech officially went unranked in the fourth week. The Hokies were projected to finish in 13th place in the conference according to the ACC preseason poll. They currently stand in 11th place with 9 points and a 2-3-3 conference record.
In 2024, Virginia Tech finished its season with a 7-6-4 record and in 14th place in the ACC with a 1-5-2 record. The Hokies took a first-round exit in the 2024 ACC Tournament, falling to Duke 2-0.
Series History
If the Orange capture the win on Wednesday night over Virginia Tech, they will move on to the Quarterfinal Round of the ACC Championship and face the winner of the No. 3 seed NC State and No. 14 seed Louisville match. The Quarterfinal Round will be hosted at the highest-seed's field on Sunday Nov. 9. Kickoff is set for either 2, 6 or 8 p.m. ET.
