Armstrong Leads 'Cuse in Road Win

Sophomore produces four points in 5-2 win
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Syracuse University women's ice hockey continued its strong road performance as Peyton Armstrong scored a goal and added three assists to lead the Orange to a 5-2 victory over RIT Friday afternoon at the Gene Polisseni Center.
Syracuse (5-4-0, 3-0-0 AHA) dominated the game offensively, scoring three power-play goals and adding an empty-netter to seal the win. Armstrong led all scorers with four points, while Jordan Blouin and Celia Wiegand each added two points on the afternoon. Ava Drabyk earned the win in goal with 29 saves. The Orange improved to 3-0-0 on the road this year, all in Atlantic Hockey America play.
RIT (4-5-0, 1-2-0 AHA) struggled to generate offense until the third period when Riley Gramlich and Ireland Stein found the back of the net to close the gap and avoid the shutout. Sophia Bellina took the loss in goal for the Tigers with 12 saves in two periods of work before being relieved by Brenna McNamara, who had seven saves.
How it Happened
- Syracuse struck first on the power play when Jordan Blouin scored her third goal of the season at 16 minutes, 19 seconds of the first period, assisted by Armstrong and Wiegand, to give the Orange a 1-0 lead.
- The Orange exploded for three goals in the second period. Armstrong scored a goal at 7:07 assisted by Wiegand, then Rachel Walsh netted the first of her career on the power play at 18:57 on passes from Armstrong and Blouin. Nea Tervonen added another power-play tally just 48 seconds later to make it 4-0 with assists from Cheung and Armstrong.
- The Tigers looked to make a comeback in the third period with Gramlich scoring on the power play at 0:57 and Stein adding a goal at 10:48 to cut the deficit to 4-2.
- Sami Gendron sealed the victory late in the third with an empty-net goal at 18:46.
Behind the Numbers
- Syracuse went 3-for-5 on the power play while RIT was 1-for-2. This is the most 'Cuse has scored on the power play all season.
- Armstrong's four-point performance led all players. She now has eight points on the season.
- Tervonen went 13-for-26 in the faceoff circle and led the team with six blocks on defense.
- The Orange had five different goal scorers this afternoon.
- 'Cuse remains undefeated on the road this season at 5-0-0.
