‘Cuse Ranked No. 7 by United Soccer Coaches

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse men's soccer was ranked No. 7 in the latest edition of the United Soccer Coaches poll, as announced by the organization on Tuesday afternoon. The Orange, who jumped 18 spots from the preseason rankings, earned the distinction after a two-win opening week against Colgate and Niagara.
'Cuse opened its 2024 campaign on Thursday, Aug. 22, at Colgate, using an 87th-minute goal by Chimere Omeze to earn a 1-0 win over the Raiders. Tomas Hut, who was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week after the first week of play, recorded four saves in the win to keep the opposition off the scoresheet.
Syracuse then began its home slate with a 3-0 win over Niagara on Sunday, Aug. 25. The Orange dominated on offense, outshooting the Purple Eagles, 28-2. Ezra Widman, Omeze, and Nicholas Kaloukian recorded scores in the win.
Syracuse is one of six ACC teams included in the week-one rankings. The other five schools includes reigning National Champion, Clemson (No. 1), Pittsburgh (No. 3), Stanford (No. 13), Louisville (No. 15), and North Carolina (No. 17).
Virginia Tech (5), SMU (4), Notre Dame (4), and Duke (2) also received votes towards the rankings.
The Orange were also included in the latest edition of TopDrawerSoccer's poll at No. 15. Syracuse was included in the preseason rankings by the organization at No. 24.
'Cuse is set to continue its homestand on Thursday, Aug. 29 (8 p.m.), when it hosts Charlotte. Admission and parking are free for everyone in attendance.
