
Orange Men Win NCAA Northeast Regional

Both teams qualify for nationals.
The Syracuse cross country teams will be extending their streak of NCAA Championship appearances next week, as both teams earned automatic qualifying spots for the event after finishing in the top-two at Friday's NCAA Northeast Regional.
The men's team won the Northeast Region for the third time in the last four years and 12th time in the last-15 competitions. The Orange women took second, qualifying for their fourth-straight NCAA Championship. It'll be the men's program's 16th-straight appearance. Syracuse entered the season with the nation's fourth-longest active streak. The full field of NCAA Championship qualifiers, including at-large selections, will be announced on Saturday.
The 'Cuse men scored 75 points, 22 ahead of second-place Harvard. Syracuse was led by a runner-up performance from Sam Lawler (29:52.47) in the first 10k of the season. Benne Anderson placed eighth (30:08.37), followed by Connor Ackley (30:22.54) and Alex Comerford (30:24.56) in 18th and 19th, respectively. All four earned USTFCCCA All-Region accolades for their finish.
Assaf Harari rounded out the SU scoring in 28th place (30:42.24), while Ethan Wechsler (31:09.57/51st) and Kamari Miller (31:15.35/57th) were the other two Orange competitors in the field.
The women scored 105 points, behind No. 11 Providence, who won the team title. SU did best No. 25 Boston College by 26 points, who came into the event ranked three spots ahead of them in the national poll.
Savannah Roark was the top finisher for the Orange, taking ninth. She crossed the line of the 6k race in 20:02.97. Emma Eastman (20:20.10) took 17th, followed two spots behind by Rylie Lusk (20:23.49). All three joined the four men in earning All-Region accolades.
Heidi Demeo (20:37.72) and Selma Anderson (20:46.99) finished 28th and 32nd, respectively, to score for the women. Madeline Heintz (21:01.23) was 48th, followed by Beatriz Fernandes (21:58.30) in concluding the Orange field at the meet.
The teams are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 23 at the NCAA Championships in Madison, Wisconsin.
