The current Syracuse track and field teams closed a successful weekend at the Dr. Sander Invitational in New York City and John Thomas Invitational in Boston on Saturday, but it was an Orange alum who stole the show.
Justyn Knight '18, the most decorated athlete in program history, added another victory to his list on Saturday at the Dr. Sander mile. In a loaded field, Knight crossed the line in 3:59.32 to secure the win. Knight, who now trains with Reebok Boston Track Club along with a slew of other 'Cuse alums, is coached by former Syracuse mentor Chris Fox. Now after concluding his career with more ACC titles than anyone else in conference history, Knight has his eyes set on the 2020 Olympics.
As for the current squad, Joe Dragon turned in the 14th-fastest 5,000-meter time in the nation. The Orange senior won his heat in 3:59.49 and was the fifth-fastest collegian in the meet. Dragon's time is a new PR, besting his old mark by over 8 seconds.
Nathan Henderson posted the 11th-fastest mile time at the John Thomas Invite, crossing the line in 4:02.09. The field featured 170 collegiate and professional runners and Henderson's time was the fourth fastest among collegians at the event. The personal-best mark would have ranked 18th nationally before the weekend. Teammate Noah Beveridge (4:10.06) took 31st, while Robert Roosa finished with a time of 4:26.45.
Joey Eovaldi competed in the 3,000-meter run, crossing the line in 8:28.28, while Kevin Robertson finished in 8:42.44.
The Orange women entered a distance medley relay squad that took 13th. The group of Kate KEmnitz, Mariana McManus, Sarah Eddy and Abigail Walsh crossed the line in 12:42.04.
At the Dr. Sander Invitational, Jordan Davenport finished 14th in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 22.19 seconds.
The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Alexis Crosby, Dennisha Page, Dasia Pressley, and Shaleah Colaire finished 19th.
Jamil Adams (50.36) and Andrew Aguilera (52.98) represented SU in the 400-meter dash, while Colaire (59.56) raced for the Orange women.
'Cuse is back in action next weekend at a trio of meets. Some members of the squad will head back to Boston for the Harvard Crimson Elite and/or the Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invite, while others will trek across the country to the University of Washington Invitational.
