
#11 Orange Aim To Defend ACC Title

Coming off its first ACC title a year ago, the No. 11 Syracuse University women's rowing team launches its title defense this weekend at Lake Hartwell in Clemson, S.C. The 2025 ACC Women's Rowing Championship will begin on Friday, May 16 with prelims and conclude Saturday, May 17 with finals.
Syracuse is the No. 3 seed in all five races at the ACC Championship. Stanford is the top seed in all five events with California as the No. 2 seed across all five races. The seeds were determined by a vote of the conference's head coaches.
The Orange enter the 2025 ACC Championships as the third highest ranked team in the conference, trailing just No. 1 Stanford and No. 9 California in this week's Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) poll.
Racing will begin Friday at 8:05 a.m. with the third varsity eight heats. The varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four and second varsity four heats will follow. Saturday will feature grand and petite finals beginning with the third varsity eights at 8:05 a.m. and finishing with the varsity eight grand final at 9:55 a.m.
Syracuse won its maiden ACC championship last year at Lake Wheeler in Raleigh, N.C. The Orange scored 90 points to tie with Virginia and won the title by virtue of their victory in the first varsity eight grand final. The Orange snapped Virginia's streak of 13 consecutive ACC titles. Syracuse's second varsity eight also won gold as the Orange varsity and second varsity eights have each won the last two ACC grand finals.
This will be the first ACC Women's Rowing Championship hosted by Clemson since 2022. Including last year's ACC title, the Orange have placed in the top two in five of the last seven conference championship regattas.
Syracuse has faced top competition throughout the regular season, as the Orange enter the ACC Championships having raced against six teams currently ranked in the top 10 – No. 1 Stanford, No. 4 Tennessee, No. 5 Yale, No. 6 Princeton, No. 9 California and No. 10 Michigan. The Orange have made four consecutive NCAA Championship appearances and are looking to punch a fifth conseuctive ticket this weekend.Â
