The Syracuse women's rowing program concluded its fall season on Saturday morning, racing against Cornell at home. The event featured two sessions, starting with a 4,000m race in eights, followed by a 1,000m piece.
The event gave the Orange an opportunity to compete against other boats, providing the team a barometer for how their fall training has gone. Head Coach Luke McGee was pleased with his team's performance, citing a top-to-bottom effort from his crews.
"Overall, I thought it was a strong team performance," McGee said. "It was a lot of our rowers' first race against an outside opponent and I was very pleased with what myself and the rest of the coaching staff saw."
The race was also one of Syracuse's first home races in several years. McGee also said it was a special day competing on the Orange's home waters in front of supporters.
"It was really exciting for us to race back home, we haven't done it in a few years," McGee said. "It was a fun experience to race on our home waters. To have Cornell come race us at home was really special for the coaches and the athletes."
The event concludes the fall slate of racing for the Orange. Syracuse will spend the next few months training for its spring season. McGee said the team is going to focus on staying fit and getting stronger and that they'll be ready to roll come the spring season.
"Just have to keep training, getting fit and getting strong," McGee said. "We have a long way to go before our next race. We'll be a different beast by the time Spring rolls around."
The Orange will train the remainder of the fall and winter before they start their spring season. Syracuse will next race in the Doc Hosea Invitational, set to take place in late March in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
