
Orange Comeback Comes Up Short at Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Virginia – No. 6/11 Syracuse's second-half comeback came up short in a 14-11 loss at Virginia Tech on Saturday.

Emma Ward led the Orange with five points on two goals and three assists. She increased her career assists total to 164, tying the all-time program record held by Katie Rowan. Mileena Cotter had a hat trick, while Alexa Vogelman and Emma Muchnick had two goals each.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The teams were tied at 1-1 before Virginia Tech (8-7, 2-5) scored three-straight goals and led 4-1 after the first quarter. The Hokies scored the final goal of the second quarter with eight seconds on the clock and the first goal after intermission to take a 9-4 lead.

Muchnick started the Syracuse (9-6, 5-3) comeback with an unassisted goal at the 9:55 mark of the third quarter. Vogelman and Ashlee Volpe followed with goals to cut the deficit to 9-7. Virginia Tech responded with two-straight goals before Cotter tallied the first goal of the fourth quarter to bring 'Cuse within three at 11-8, but that was as close as the Orange could get.

Syracuse closes out the regular season on Thursday, April 17 against Boston College at Christian Brothers Academy in Dewitt. Admission will be free of charge.
